What? I am not working today.

I take this movie is quite a rarity on DVD, and I bought it only by pure chance. (mistook it for Daniel Craig’s Defiance, from 2008.)

Now, I don’t like war movies in particular, but I can’t deny I have a faible for gloomy character studies. And this one’s superb.

I am glad that European cinema begins to produce movies again that are deep, yet entertaining on a very basic level, too. A few years ago, I watched another adventure piece, Black Death, that also has me hopeful that our Old World’s cinematic culture here has more to offer than telenovelas, with the exception of a good BBC miniseries now and then.
